Choosing To Look For The Good In Life

The fight for peace in our hearts and minds is a hard one. It can take time to reach the point of feeling like we can even try to see hope, but it comes down to a moment and a decision to choose it.
There are so many times in my life when I’ve let my thoughts race. I’ve fed the whirlwind of worry and doubts and fears. I’ve had to choose to push all those stresses away. Sometimes, I even have to visualize throwing all those worried thoughts out the window or letting go and allowing the Lord to take them from my hands.
In the times that I’ve gotten stuck in my own head for too long, I’ve had to reach out to someone and ask for help. They’ve prayed for me and over me. They’ve pointed out what God is doing in me and how He is growing me.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” - John 10:10
When we choose to hold onto hope, the waves and the storm might not go away. We might still be overwhelmed and feel like we’re barely keeping our head above water. But holding onto Jesus and what He is doing, can be an anchor in the waves, holding us steady when everything around us seems to be falling apart.
As I focus on the good things that God is doing, it lifts me up and brings me joy. It excites me for what He will do next. It shows me that He is working in my life. It shows me that He is working in the lives of those around me. And the more I see what God is doing, the more opportunities I have to lift others up and encourage them and share with them the ways I see God working in them and through them. And then that can start a chain reaction of the body of Christ building each other up.
“Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:11
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” – Hebrews 10:24
“Lord, I ask that as we go about our days this week, we will choose to look for the good. That we will learn to practice gratitude and let it change the way we think about the world and about our lives. When we feel worried, remind us to seek you and hold on tightly to your promises. Remind us of the times you have shown your faithfulness and love to us. I pray a blessing over the person reading this right now. Please protect their heart and mind from the lies the Enemy tries to whisper to them. Encourage them, God. And put people in their life who can encourage them too. Please bless them. And show them a reason they can smile today.” ♥️
