All In All

Updated: Feb 15

A couple weeks ago, I made a post about who we are in Jesus. This week I want to share about who God promises to be for us.

I was stressing about something earlier this week. (Surprise, surprise.😉) I knew I needed peace. I knew that I needed strength and confidence. I was fighting against those worried thoughts, but things weren’t changing. I knew that I would be ok, at least eventually, but worry was still clouding my mind.

I hadn’t remembered that when God tells us, “Do not be afraid”, He also promises to be our peace. We know we shouldn’t fear, we know we don’t have to fear, but we so easily forget that He is the only one who can calm the raging sea in our thoughts. We can even forget that it’s possible for us to be at peace inside and not be constantly spiraling into worry and anxiety.

So, I made a list (because I’m a list person) of verses to be a visual reminder of the different sort of things God will be for us. Hopefully, this short list can be an encouragement to you, too! We can go to any number of things to fill the angst or worry inside of us, but God is, and will always be, the only one who can meet even the smallest of needs we have.

Proverbs 3:26a says, “for the LORD will be your confidence”. Even if you’re generally a confident person, I think we all go through moments where we feel unqualified and worry about what others will think of us or our accomplishments. As long as our mission in life is to love God and love others, God will be our confidence when we don’t have any. We will stumble, and probably say things we shouldn’t have or didn’t want to. But at the end of the day, our worth and confidence comes from the Lord and who we are in Him, not what we do and say.

Ephesians 2:14a says, “For he himself is our peace,” As the world gets darker and darker, it’s going to be easy to worry about what will happen or become of us. Firstly, if we have a personal relationship with Jesus, the worst thing that could happen to us will only lead us to the doorway of Heaven where we will live forever with Him. And in the meantime, God promises to be our peace in the troubled times that we will experience.

Psalm 28:7 says, “The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.” When we’re struggling to keep going and feel weak and weary, God will be our strength.

Psalm 62:2 says, “He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.” When it feels like our whole world is falling apart, God is the only thing who will stay steady and can keep us steady. All we have to do is reach out to Him and He will be our anchor.

As I was thinking about how to end this post, Brooke Griffith’s version of You Are My All In All came to mind. I couldn't figure out how to add it straight to the blog post, but you should go check it out. :)

Jesus loves you!
